Happy Friday!

Dear BHS Community,

I hope this message finds you well.  I'm in good spirits - I always am.  Among many good things, I noticed that the sun remains visible a little bit longer these days than it did a few weeks ago.  Spring is around the corner.  I eagerly await it's arrival (we southern folk like it a wee bit warmer).

Lot's happening on the BHS campus right about now.  The BHS Burning Tigers Robotics team is in the process of building the robot for the spring competition.  The debate team is in full swing (tournament this weekend).  The boys and girls basketball and track teams are putting their best foot forward.  We're busy and things are going well.

In addition to these happenings around campus, I want to share that a program to recognize all of the good things students are doing is under way.  We call the the BHS Paws program for Pawsitive behavior.  Far too often, schools devote attention to the folks who aren't meeting expectations.  We are turning the tide for the young people who are doing the right thing.  Below are some pics of the students who received awards and prizes for being nominated by their teachers as well as the wall with the names of the all the nominees.  With any luck the halls should be covered in paws in the coming weeks.

Given that Monday is MLK Day, I’ll leave you with profound words that, in many ways, capture our collective efforts at BHS:  The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically. Intelligence plus character - that is the goal of true education.

Enjoy the long weekend!

Best,
Dr. T
