Well, there is a first time for everything. In my years as an educator, not once do I recall a closure for cold weather. Truth be told, I was a bit grumpy about the cancellation until I stepped outside. Suffice to say that I desperately looked forward to the 30° temperatures today.
That aside, Happy New Year! It is my sincere hope that your winter vacation was family-centered, restful, and relaxing. As I moved about the building and spoke with students this week, that seemed to be the case for the most part. While it didn't appear that they were happy to be back in the routine of waking up early and tending to homework, they appeared genuinely happy to be in the company of one another again. Welcome back!
We are rolling up our sleeves to get work done. There are only six short weeks between the vacation that just ended and the February Vacation. Lots will happen in the intervening time. Below is a quick bullet list of events and assessments coming up:
- ACCESS assessment for English Language Learner (a letter has been mailed) - January 13- Feb. 6th
- Senior Event at Game On (near Fenway Park), January 16th
- 9th Grade Science Fair - see below
- Project 351, January 17th - More on this next week
- January 30th, Quarter 2 marks close
- MCAS Biology Retest (2/2 and 2/3)
Hold on to your hats friends!
Be well.

It is almost time for the Brighton High School Science
Fair!
On January 22 we will hold our annual Freshman Science Fair
at the Brighton High School Library.
We
have all been working diligently making scientific discoveries and conducting
interesting experiments. Parents are
most welcome. We would love it to see
you here! Students will be presenting their projects during their normally
scheduled Physics Class period, so be sure ask them when that is so you can
catch them when they shine.
If
you would like to participate as one of our celebrity judges, just drop an
e-mail to Mike McKittrick (rmckittrick@bostonpublicschools.org ) and write “I want to be a Judge” in the tag line.
See
you there!
