Have a Great Vacation!

Dear Community,

The exams are complete, the books have been returned, the lockers have been cleaned out, and the good-byes have been extended.   The 2013-2014 school year is all but complete.  Monday is reserved for make up exams....and the 150 students headed to Six Flags! This year has been incredible in many ways. Our students grew as learners and as citizens and we grew stronger as a community.  I look forward to this and more next year! I would like to thank you for your partnership and support in making this year a success.  I look forward to the next partnered journey. We’ll do it again beginning September 4th, the first day of the 2014-15 school year.

During the summer, the campus will be closed to allow the custodial staff to get the building ready ready the campus for the fall.  Staffing is limited during the summer.  Should you have a need,  I welcome you to call the main office (617-635-9873) or email me (ptutwiler@bostonpublicschools,org). You may also consult website for information.

4th quarter report cards will be mailed in two weeks.  If you student has did not meet the requirements for specific course and has been registered for summer school, you will receive specific information in the coming days.  Again, I want to underscore how important it is for students to make up fail courses during the summer.  Feel free to contact your student's guidance counselor with any questions.

I wish you all the best for a safe, restful, relaxing, fun, and family-oriented summer vacation.   That’s a tall order, but one that is easily achieved, I think.

Best,
Dr, T

Summer Vacation is Near!

Dear Community,

Summer vacation is near!  We're not quite there yet.  We have still a serious academic exercise right around the corner.  Final exams begin next Wednesday!  As I make my way around the building, I see students preparing diligently.  This is great!  They should take advantage of the weekend and next Tuesday (no school - Bunker Hill Day) to iron out any academic wrinkles.  As I say often, this is their time to strut their academic stuff!

As we approach the summer, I am pleased to announce that more than 185 have students will be engaged in internships over the summer, many of which are paid.  I credit the students for presenting themselves well on paper and during interviews.  I also credit Dan Cuddy, our PIC coordinator, who works tirelessly to build relationships with job/internship providers and prepare students for these real world experiences.  It's no wonder that he received an Unsung Hero award at an Allston/Brighton ceremony lats week.

As we prepare to dismiss students for the summer months, I want to remind you that there are a number of programs available to you and your student.  Follow this link for more.  Of particular importance is reading during the summer.  Follow this link for a suggested reading list.

Lastly, students completed a school climate survey last week.  They were given a paper copy of the parent survey with a return envelope to bring home.  In the event that it didn't make it home, follow this link to complete one.  We value your feedback!

Happy Father's Day to my fellow dads in the audience!

Best,
Dr. T

Happy Friday!

Dear Community,

What a week this was!  First, we celebrated the wonderful educational careers of our beloved seniors at the senior awards ceremony and graduation.  Relatedly, our seniors earned scholarships and grants in the amount of $4 million this year!  I could not be prouder.  I speak for the entire BHS community when I say that, while they will be missed, we are excited for the contributions they WILL make in the future.

The good stuff was not limited to the seniors this week. We had students taking their learning on the road, so to speak.  This week students visited the JFK Library, The Black Heritage Trail, and presentation of the Tempest at the American Repertory Theater.  We brought the events full circle with an SAT Pep Rally this afternoon. All very valuable and memorable learning experiences for sure.

We are getting very close to the end of the school year.  It is very important for students to finish strong. I'm certain that I've said this before.  For your information, final exams will be administered June 18-20. Make ups will be administered the on the 23rd.  Your help by reminding students to prepare is greatly appreciated. This is also as good a time as any to check bedrooms to make sure that all items and books belonging to the school make their way back.

This weekend looks like a beautiful one! Enjoy!

Best,
Dr. T
