Happy Friday!

Dear BHS Community,

I hope this message finds you enjoy the slightly warmer temperatures.  Spring is coming, slowly, but surely.

Lots happening around these parts.  First, a hearty congratulations to the  BHS Robotics Team!  They performed well at their tournament in Rhode Island last weekend, earning the Team Spirit award.  Also, congratulations to the BHS Debate Team.  Last night the Boston Debate League held its annual awards ceremony.  Our debaters went home with a number of really wonderful awards.  I am proud!

Last, but not least, a note of caution for parents of seniors.  As you know, may colleges are sending decision letters right now.  This is both a joyous to time for seniors, but also an extremely successful.  This is the time during which seniors experience a range of emotions as they decide what they want to with their lives and realize that they are on the doorstep of adulthood.  I want to remind you that we are partners and are willing to help you support your student.  Please contact a your student's guidance counselor should the need arise.

Have a great weekend!

Best,
Pat

Thank You!

Dear Community,

Happy Friday!  First, allow me to extend a most sincere "thank you" to the parents and guardians of current 10th graders.  They showed up in a most impressive way to strut their academic stuff during the English Language Arts MCAS testing days.  Attendance rates during the testing days were among the best of for the 10th grade class all year.  We will try again on May 13th and 14th for math MCAS.  Parents of 9th graders, take note, the science MCAS is June 2nd and 3rd.  It is important for your students to present every day for all sorts of reasons, but in particular to be prepared to do well on the exam.

Also, I would like to extend "thanks" to those of your who attended the spring open house last night.  There are two additional opportunities to engage in the near future.  April 30th is Student Shadow Day.  Come see your student's classes live!  On May 1st, "Speak" is happening.  This is a multicultural potluck and student talent show event.  More on both soon.

I'll leave you with a piece of good news.  The Daly Field project is moving forward.  This is a partnered plan with Simmons College to construct soccer, football, and softball fields as well as tennis courts.  This essentially would create a bonafide home field for Brighton High School.  This is very good news!

Next Wednesday is an early release day.

Enjoy your weekend!

Best,
Dr. T

Happy Friday!

Dear Community,

Well...spring will come sometime soon.  In fact, the first day of spring is next Thursday.  One can only hope that the warm temperatures follow quickly behind.  In any case, today felt springlike in the building.  By all accounts - today was a good day (the days previous were good too).

By way of reminder, on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday of next week, sophomores will take the English MCAS.  Attendance is very important everyday, but on these days, it is even more important. Please be sure your student makes his or her way to school on-time on each of the days.  To get our students ready and excited to strut their academic stuff, we held the first MCAS PREP Rally today. This was a fun way to remind students of a few simple strategies and, more importantly, communicate our belief in their ability to do well.

One more reminder, the Spring Open House is next Thursday from 5-7pm.  Open houses are important events during which teachers and parents connect to discuss student progress.  In my opinion, the spring open house is the most important as it provides an opportunity for the adults to partner in steering students in the right direction for the remainder of the year. We hope to see you there!

Monday is Evacuation Day.  All BPS schools will be closed.

Enjoy!

Best,
Dr. T

P.S.  Please sign up for the Parent Portal. This video shows you how.

Happy Friday!

Dear Community,

Happy Friday!  First, a hearty thanks to those of you who had MCAS test re-takers this week.  They came and put their best foot forward.  Parents/Guardians of 10th graders, we will be asking your young scholars to do the same beginning March 18th.  I know you have received reminder calls about the importance of attendance in the coming days.  To be clear, attendance is important everyday, but now is the high stakes time. Get them here and we'll do the rest.

Believe it or not, we are quickly nearing the midpoint of the 3rd quarter.  Students will receive their 3rd quarter progress report next Thursday.  Be sure to check the old backpack next Thursday or sign up to view it and much more in the Parent Portal.  As always, we welcome you to contact a teacher f you have questions/concerns.

Summer will be here before you know it.  While I support rest and relaxation during the summer, jobs and internships are really important, impactful experiences.  The time to begin looking is NOW.  Please have your young scholar see his/her guidance counselor to find out what's available.  Follow this link to read about a summer experience for one of our very own.

Lastly, if you didn't hear, the College Board is making significant changes to the SAT.  We're on top of it. The change impacts students in grade 10.  Follow this link to learn more.

Have a great weekend!

Best,
Pat
